Hello my reader friends! I’m back with another first impression! I’ve been so pleased with the love for my other first impression posts, and I want to thank each and every one of you for reading and commenting on them. If you haven’t read them yet, click here to see the other posts in this “series.”
Now, before I begin, I want to tell you how I heard about this site. I was contacted by a representative, after they had read my post on Twitter about Canva. First of all, how cool is it that someone read my post and thought to suggest something to me to try? I think that’s pretty cool. If you have any suggestions, let me know!
Second, they offered me a Premium account so that I can look deeper into what the site can do. So, I decided to make this a two part post. Part one will be with my free account, and part two will be with my premium account. Of course, at the end, I’ll give you my final thoughts on both.
Now, let’s get started!
What is it?
Visme is a site, like Canva, where you can make all sorts of graphics (not just infographics, either!). You can make reports, graphs and charts (who doesn’t like graphs!), resumes, flyers, scatter plots, and of course, social graphics. You can even publish survey results with engaging visuals. There’s just so much to do!
Is it free?
Why yes it is! Well, the Free account is. There is also a Premium account.

Alright, time to sign up!
Part One: Free Account
You can either sign up with your name, email address, and password, and you can create your account through Facebook. I’ll choose the former.
On the next page, you tell them a little about yourself. Who you are, where you work (small business, nonprofit, self-employed, etc), and what you are looking to do. I chose, “Inform/educate an audience.” They even say thanks after you push the button!
Next, you’re in! It asks you what you would like to create. This is the hard part for me.
I decided to click on the icons they had set before me, and WOW!
Presentations: if you want to make a presentation, you’ve come to the right place. There are tons of slides to choose from.
Infographics generate a list of pretty awesome templates. You can create a timeline, a list, the phases of something (in a line, or pyramid), you can compare and contrast, pretty much anything!
Now, this is where I start to see where the Premium account comes in. There are certain templates that you can only get with that kind of account, but honestly? Just by looking at the pictures, I don’t see a huge difference between the two. I like the simplicity of the free ones. But, if you’re looking for something a little more “professional” then definitely go premium. Those are a little more advanced.
For “Reports and Ebook,” there are only five templates for “Surveys” for you to choose from (and of course the blank one). As for “Charts,” there are five as well.
Printables: you can choose from posters to business cards. Your choices are vast.
Web graphics: here you can make a blog graphic, and even an email header (perfect for newsletters I would think).
Blog graphic: you can make a header (again, with five templates to choose from with the free account), square, and rectangle graphics, all with five free templates (plus the blank template). There are so many options with the Premium account.
Social Graphics: you can choose any social media account and whatever graphic you want. Twitter has headers, posts, and ads. Instagram only has one kind of template, and that’s for posts. Interestingly enough, it’s only available for Premium users (but that can’t stop you from making an Instagram graphic in another section, I don’t think). Same goes for Pinterest. But remember, these are just templates. You can always custom make them yourself.
You can even make YouTube channel art, and YT video thumbnails (oh that’d be perfect for me because I can’t stand my thumbnails for my videos!).
The very last icon allows you to make a custom sized graphic.
So! After bombarding my brain, I decided to start with making a blog graphic. I don’t usually use templates, but for the sake of this post, I decided to try it out. I used the first one.
The editor reminds me a lot of Canva, with the way it’s laid out. It’s kind of small, but there’s still a lot of options within each category. And yes, I do see an Undo button!
I really like the suggestions they have for text blocks and photos and icons. They also have data icons that you can customize. You can also embed online content.

You can also pick your theme colors. You can add your own theme with a Premium account.
After trying out the template, I realized that I was essentially starting from scratch anyway. So, after deleting pretty much everything, I began with a blank canvas.
I looked at the icons and shapes and clicked on decorative elements. This is not good…be prepared for nothing but interesting shapes in pretty colors in future graphics.
Also, you can add your own fonts with a Premium account.
I really like the fonts. There aren’t many, but they pick some pretty good ones.
Ok, after being nit-picky about where to place everything (I love those lines that help you place all the elements on the thing. It’s late and my brain hurts. I’ll call them “alignment lines”), I came up with what you saw at the beginning. Neat huh?
It was very easy to use, and the options I had to choose from were pretty sufficient, since I’m “only” making this for a blog. I use the word “only” loosely because making something for a blog is just as important as making something for a big corporation.
Part Two: Premium account
I want to talk about “My Brand.” This option basically has one job: to make everything cohesive. Think about Instagram. Some people will only have black and white pictures. Other will have only white, pink, and yellow. This is kind of like that. You choose your own font, colors, templates, logos, and brand links. That way, when you make anything, you can have everything you want right at your fingertips. I know it would be useful for someone who has a brand in mind, but for me, well, I’m all over the place, so I’m leaving this alone for now.
Analytics is new to the Premium account. This show how many views your projects have received. It actually looks pretty informative. I’ll have to check back in a few days and see what it shows.
Now that I have this new account, I want to see what is really new. You can now save your projects as a PDF or HTML5. What’s the significance? PDF is better for printing, HTML5 is better for offline use (for example, you’re doing a presentation, but you don’t know if there will be an internet connection. This way, you can still have your animations and audio).
Now to create something new.
I love graphs. I loved making them in school, and I love making them now. I even made a graph one year for NaNoWriMo of how many words I wrote per day vs. how many I was supposed to write. So, I have decided to make a graph. But, of what? How about my blog!
The makings of a graph
I decided to show how many blog posts I have done each year, and how that correlates with how many views I had each year. Sound hard? Easy? Daunting? Boring? I think it sounds fun!
I selected a template that looked similar to what I had in mind. Then, I gathered my information (not before I decided to make the graph, because God forbid I actually do something in the right sequence).
I double clicked on the graph and this beautiful spreadsheet popped up. I love spreadsheets. Making the graph was super simple. All I had to do was input my data.
You can either manually input data, or you can import data from a Google Spreadsheet (all you need is the public URL). Or, you can import from Excel.
Boy did that not turn out the way I wanted… So, I decided to do a different style of graph.
It’s a very simple graph, so I decided to go a little farther and make something else.
If there’s one thing I can say about this site, it’s that I have a lot of blog post ideas, just by looking at the variety of templates, and their designs.
I did another graph to show how many views my blog has gotten thus far. Again, it was very simple to make. It also looked a little plain, so I decided to add a background. It’s very easy to drag and drop a picture, and with the amount of choices you have, it’s also very easy to find something you’re looking for.
I did one more block, and I added another background picture. There is so much to do on this site!
One thing I suggest doing is having a layout in mind before looking at your options, because if you don’t, you’ll have a better chance at getting overwhelmed or losing focus of what you want. That’s definitely what happened to me.
Here’s my final product. It’s a little simple, again, but I’m pretty happy with it. And, in the last block, the blog post would be clickable, had I been able to actually embed this graphic onto the blog, instead of just uploading the file.
Pros And Cons:
Pros: Overall, I am very happy with this site. It’s easy and fun to use, there are plenty of ways to learn how to use it (video tutorials, as well as the Help section, which is full of information). I also love that you can embed the graphics on your site, so you don’t use up any space. But, like I said, you can’t embed graphics unless you own your site or blog. For example, my blog is still hosted on WordPress (hence the .wordpress.com at the end of the URL). Therefore, I still have to upload my graphics.
Cons: Too many options. I say this lightheartedly, though, because I get distracted easily. I like options, but I got overwhelmed and couldn’t really focus on what I was trying to do. I should have either had a super concrete idea, or no idea at all. There is so much help though. A lot of videos and pictures to help you navigate the site and the editing process.
My First Impression:
As far as which account to go with (free or premium), that’s up to you. I suggest signing up and taking a look at the options yourself, to determine if Premium is worth it to you. For me, it’s not, just because I like stuff to be simple, and I’m not in a job that requires anything “fancy” or thought out to a certain degree. I don’t do presentations or need to show off detailed graphs or flow charts. I can see bigger companies needing a Premium account, like IBM, which does work with Visme.

It’s so much fun to use! Definitely generates a lot of creative juices. I could spend, and have spent, hours creating and searching through all it has to offer. You could do one project a hundred different ways.
