Worst Work Week

Now there’s a tongue twister.

I can’t tell you how many mistakes I have made this work week.  It’s been really bad.  The worst, actually, hence the title of this post.  Let me tell you what has happened:

  • I dropped some deodorant.  As it hit the floor, the top bursts open and a piece of it broke off and flung to who knows where.  I had to tape up what was left and put it in the clearance section.  Well, as least I saved someone some money.
  • As I was pulling some floor cleaner forward, my hand hit a bottle next to it and my reflexes didn’t kick in soon enough.  Again, it dropped to the floor but this time, the whole top came off and the cleaner spilled all over the floor.  I put the top back on, as well as I could, and I looked for a mop.  Sadly, it was in a locked room in the back of the store.  I grabbed a yellow “Caution” sign (why it was out on the floor in the first place, I don’t know.  I really believe God put it there because He knew what was going to happen) and I took the bottle and looked for the “cleaning guy” (he cleans everything, even though that’s not his job title).  So I’m carrying around this broken, 1/3 empty bottle around the store, looking for him.  I can’t look for long because I have a job to do and if my boss sees me not doing it he’ll say something.  I can’t find him, so I leave the bottle on the floor.  I go back to doing my job, when all of a sudden I hear, “You have got to be kidding me.”  Oh, he found it.  He was pretty mad.  Later that night, I told him what had happened.  He wasn’t mad.  He was mad at first because he thought a customer did it, but apparently after finding out I did it, it wasn’t a big deal.
  • I was ringing up a customer, and since they wouldn’t take any of their items, I hadn’t remembered if I rang one up or not.  So, I ended up charging them twice for it.  I apologized but they said, “It’s no big deal, my kids will drink it” so they went and got another one.
  • I bagged this guys’ items, and as he was walking out of the door, the alarm sounded.  I grabbed his bag and carried it over to the alarm disarmer…thing.  I gave the bag back to him, but the alarm sounded again.  So I took the bag and as I was carrying it back over to the disarmer…crash goes his bottles of Coke.  And, of course, a line is forming at the register as I clumsily trip over myself as I’m trying to re-bag everything.  And of course he is in a hurry, so he is impatient and angry.  Finally, I got everything into a bag, the alarm disarmed, and him out the door.  “That has never happened before” I told the next guy in line.  “You did good though” he replied.

Honestly, through all of this, I just laughed.  That’s all I could do.  No one got mad, I didn’t get in trouble.  Everything worked out just fine.

Another thing that seems to have worked out is the fact that I should be fired.  If you’re a cashier, you can’t be over $2 or more, more than twice or it’s an automatic out (I can’t word things today correctly).  Well, I was over $2 twice, and no one has said anything about it, soooo thanks God.

That’s been my week.  But today, my boss/neighbor who usually drives me to work didn’t end up going.  So, I worked with someone who I wasn’t quite fond of.  I didn’t know what to expect.  The worst, honestly.  But my mother, God bless her little, pig valved heart, gave me some wise words.  “It’s human nature to expect the worse”.  I did expect the worse.  And you know what?  It was awesome.  The person I worked with was awesome.  It was an awesome day without my neighbor.  And Friday (today) I get to be there again without him.  I get to be with the new girl.  It’s going to be good.

That’s all.  Until next week, talk to you all later (or soon, considering I talk to some of you all the time).
